The Death of the Scholars

Bismillah Alhmadulilah wa b’ad:

On the Authority of Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-Aaas:

That the Messenger of Allah, sallahu alahi wa salaam, said:

Indeed Allah does not take knowledge away from removing it from the chest of the people, but rather with the death of the scholars. Until eventually, no scholars will remain and the people will take the ignorant as their leaders, and they will ask them questions, and these ignorant people will give rulings without knowledge ( in another narration “based on their opinions”), leading themselves and others astray. (Bukhari, Muslim, At-Tirmidhee, Ahmad, and others)

On the authority of Ammar bin Abi Amaar:

“When Zaid bin Thabit, May Allah be pleased with him, died, we sat with Ibn Abbaas and he said: “This is the leaving of Scholars, today an immense amount of knowledge was buried” (Narrated by Al-Bukhari in At-Taareekh, w/ an authentic Isnaad.)

About the Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab Al-Banna:

Al-Allaamah Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab Al-Banna studied with the Major Scholars of Egypt, such as Muhammad Hamid Al-Fiqhi, Abdur Razzaq Afifi, Ahmad Shakir, and others. Muhammad Haamid Al-Fiqhi gave him Tazkiyyah to teach in Saudi Arabia at the request of Al-Mufti Muhammad bin Ibrahim Alii Sheikh. He meet, benefited from, and lived in the era of Al-Mufti Muhammad bin Ibrahim Alii Ash-Sheikh. He was a very close friend of Al-Mufti Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Bin Baz. Also he worked as a teacher in the Islamic University of Medina as well as the Holy Mosque in Mekkah, and held many other positions. He is the Sheikh of our Scholars, the likes of Ash-Sheikh Rabee’ bin Hadee Al-Madkhalee and others. May Allah have Mercy on Him, and grant him Al-Firdous Al-A’laaa.

Al-Allaamah Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab Al-Banna was known for his defense of the Salafi Manhaj. Here is a picture of an introduction he wrote for Ash-Sheikh Rabee's book refuting Abdur Rahman Abdul Khaliq

“This is my Opinion about Al-Albani”-Ibn Baz

baz-albani1Ash-Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah bin Baz was asked the following:

“There is a Sheikh with us who has been given knowledge, however he insults the scholars who differ with him and he specifically mentions Ash-Sheikh Nasr Ad-Din Al-Albani. He warns from him almost every night in his speeches during the month of Ramadhan and claims that this is the opinion of all the noble scholars about Al-Albani. He says that Al-Albani is just a book merchant, so what is your response and opinion Oh Noble Sheikh about Al-Albani, so that we can inform this Sheikh about your opinion…”

So Al-Allaamah Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah responded by saying: “With the name of Allah, and All praise belongs to Allah, Ash-Sheikh Nasr Ad-Din Al-Albani is from the most exclusive of our reliable and known brothers. He is known for knowledge and virtue and having concern with Al-Hadith, in terms of determing the authencity and weakness of the narrations. He’s not infallible, perhaps he may make a mistake in his grading of hadith, but it is not permissible to insult him, criticize him, or backbite him. Rather, what is legislated is to make supplication for him, that Allah increases him in success and having good intention and actions….”

Hamaad bin Muhammad Al-Ansaree

Hammad Al-AnsaareeAsh-Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab Al-Aqeel, May Allah preserve him, was asked to mention a brief biography about his teacher, the Noble Scholar Hamaad bin Muhammad Al-Ansaree. In this brief biography, Ash-Sheikh Muhammad emphasized his teacher’s concern for collecting manuscripts, his ability to read various styles of writing, regardless of how old the manuscript was, and also his love for his students. Below is a portion of what was mentioned:

“The Noble Scholar Hamaad bin Muhammad Al-Ansaree was one of the Salafi Scholars who held firm to the book of Allah and the Prophetic Sunnah, in terms of belief, Manhaj, and manners.  He was from the first of the scholars that I sat with, outside of the Islamic University of Al-Medina, in private lessons. I read over him, may Allah have mercy on him, from the books of Aqeedah, Mustalah, Hadith, and I attained from him an Isnaad, May Allah have Mercy on him. I knew him as one to hold firm to the narrations of the salaf, and also I knew him to be from the people who abstained from the dunya, rather I didn’t see anyone with his level of zuhd, to the point where he didn’t know much about the affairs of the dunya, not even able to distinguish between the different currencies. He mentioned to me more than once, that he divided his salary into three parts, first with his family, secondly between his visitors and relatives back in his homeland, and thirdly with his library. He placed the greatest emphasis on collecting and gathering books, regardless of the price, as well as collecting manuscripts from various libraries around the world, putting them in printed form, as well as copying them. He also traveled to different countries by himself to get a number of manuscripts. Ash-Sheikh Hamaad sent to some communist countries, a number of students who were able to enter those lands, during times when Saudi Arabia didn’t have ties with such countries, in order for the students to take a look at those manuscripts, indexes, and libraries. ….”Mali

A Brief Biography of Ash-Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Muhammad bin Abdul Muhsin As-Salmaan:

Quote from the biography: ” The Scholar of Teachers, the Scholar of the Twenty Century, as the famous historian Kaamil Muhammad Uwadha referred to him in his book about the life of Ash-Sheikh Abdul Aziz, which is still in manuscript form and is nearly 230 pages. This noble sheikh, Abdul Aziz As-Salmaan traveled with simplicity and silence and lived his whole life the same way, in silence without any fame or  popularity, rather simple and far from the glitz and glamour of the worldy-life….”

Ash-Sheikh Salih bin Sa’d Al-Luhaydaan said about him: “…He was, may Allah have mercy on him, serious, patient, and had foresight. It’s possible he would remind you of someone who has preceded from the Salaf…”
